Boasting magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. Comprising England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two visitable ones are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.
Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.
The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.
Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly coloured High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centres.
Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodation on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

I went for quaint independent shops, unfortunately they are all now Harry Potter themed shops, or Oxford university themed apparel shops, or chain restaurants/ fast food along with regular high street shops.

Oxford is a very nice, clean place with a very pleasant ambience, and historic significance. Commuting with public transport is a pleasure, though we missed an equivalent of the 49 Euro ticket in Germany. The city presents buildings of tasteful architecture, free museums of high educational value and enough options for leisure as well.

Christchurch college is a must-visit place.
Christchurch college is a must-visit place. The walk along the banks of the Thames from Kennington to Oxford is quite lovely. The city is very walkable, with much of historical interest. The contrast of the very old buildings and the vitality of the university vibe is great! Busses are everywhere in that old town - very user-friendly public transit.

Oxford is a fabulous destination.
Oxford is a fabulous destination. It has stunning architecture (even if you don't like architecture!) A vibrant social life. Speed limits in many areas make it a safe place to wander. Transport options are excellent. There is a calmness to the city which is charming. Lots of open spaces to relax in, meet friends and enjoy nature.

The Ashmolean museum is a must in Oxford and you need to allow at least a half day to see it. The historic buildings at every turn are delightful and visiting some of the colleges is very worthwhile. Our favourite that we went to was Balliol. We were disappointed with Magdalen college which had large grounds but not much access to the buildings. We were staying out on the Banbury road and ate one night at Mamma Mia pizzeria which was excellent and they accommodated our vegan and garlic allergy very well. You need to book as it gets very busy, even on week days. We bought day passes for the 3 main bus companies which were very good value.

We had a two day trip which was perfect.
We had a two day trip which was perfect. There isn’t a lot to see or do.
You need to have a walking tour to see the colleges and learn history. You can book to go inside a number of the buildings. The botanical garden is a lovely visit. A river trip is a good experience.
There are some very good English pubs in the city and surrounding areas worth a visit.
Blenheim Palace is worth a visit but is 30 minutes away.
It’s not a shopping city.
Linton Lodge is a comfortable base for those visiting Oxford. There is now a charge for parking, but overall the hotel is still very good value for such a famous destination. There is a frequent bus service to the city centre. Oxford, with its colleges offering a feast of architecture and its fine museums, is worth a stay of several days.
The hotel offers comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. Modest but enjoyable evening meals are available, or there are excellent restaurants in the centre of the city or the nearby suburb of Summertown.
I may come back to England again just to stay here. Picturesque setting, the best hospitality I’ve ever received, and slept better here than any other place on my long trip.
I ate a proper English Breakfast cooked by Donna. Our room was immaculate. She also gave helpful tips for my wife and I, like which bus to take into Oxford.
We also enjoyed running the 3-mile loop around the beautiful reservoir nearby. I would highly recommend.
Very clean room with an extremely comfortable bed as was the room with a nice leather settee.
Very good breakfast with good choice.Bus stop 100 yds from hotel with buses every 5 mins or so straight to the city centre, also can walk in 5 mins to the summertown area of Oxford which has cafes restaurants shops chemists supermarkets and an array of clothes shops and charity shops!
Fabulous location for exploring the city of Oxford. Rooms were clean, well appointed, comfortable and quiet to sleep in. Great value for money option rather than a pricey city centre hotel. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Everyone in the party left very happy with the accommodation choice. Thank you to all the staff.
Hotel a stone's throw from the Train Station and an easy walk to Oxford restaurants and sights. Staff was kind and helpful. Beds were comfy. We appreciated the kettle with packets of cocoa, coffee and tea and little cookies and biscuits. We also appreciated Netflix available on the TV (through our account).
This hotel is a great find. Located right in the city centre, within a very beautiful listed building, it’s perfect for exploring Oxford. Great coffee shop a few doors down where you can grab a pastry for breakfast. Staff were really friendly and helpful in allowing us to store our bags after checkout
A fantastic price and beautiful location for North Oxford. Can walk into the city centre, also many buses. Summertown has lots of nice places to eat and get drinks. Hotel is clean, quiet and perfect quality for the price. Staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful, especially Elena, Leen and Bruce.
A really great hotel - very helpful staff, and really comfortable room, brilliant location right in the centre of Oxford with loads of shops and restaurants only a footstep away, but at the same time very quiet; and, best of all, the best shower I have experienced in any hotel anywhere!
Very cozy and authentic hotel. It was our first time in the Oxford and In England at all. We had wonderful time in the hotel, the room was a bit small but very cozy, comfortable and clean. The stuff was very friendly. The view from the room was so beautiful.
For the difficult situation Oxford is in regarding hotels this is a gem in a very good location (10 min walk into city centre), good, comfy rooms, extremely friendly and helpful staff, a great breakfast and generally a good atmosphere. Highly recommended.
The room is clean and the breakfast was exceptionally good. Extremely convenient to park outside the hotel and it’s complimentary. Overall, a wonderful stay and will definitely recommend to people who wants to stay outside the Oxford city Centre.
You can really see a huge improvement in this hotel
it has excelled in service, standard and it’s food offering

Owners of the hotel was lovely, very helpful
The hotel room was basic but had all the essentials and was spotless.
I would 100% book again if staying in Oxford.
The location is just in the city centre next to Morton College and few steps to the Oxford tube and airline bus! The hotel staff are all very helpful and happy to help my luggage with the stairs.
Very clean, room was newly decorated, attractive and modern. Comfortable bed. 20 minute walk to Oxford center or take the public bus from a bus stop just a minute walk from the hotel.
